Communicating Across Cultures

As I think about the cultural diversity I see in my colleagues at school, and in my neighborhood, I do find myself communicating differently with people from different groups.
In my online classes I find myself communicating with different nationalities of people. We all share different stories about our families and culture.
In the neighborhood I live in there is a diverse mixture of cultures, Caucasians, Hispanics, and African Americans. Most of the families have young children that play together. The older adults seen to communicate well. I have learned the simple expressions and greetings in other languages.

  1. Hi Sheena,
I think that adults do tend to communicate better, however I have learned that my husband's family lacks communication; most from his parents. It's like there's some kind of loop hole. I feel the same from my team leader and teammates. It's like we/I are an afterthought. It's great that you are learning from the adults in your neighborhood! Our neighborhood is becoming more diverse each month.

  2. Hi Sheena, I think that is notable. We should communicate with people differently because we are all different in many ways. sharing stories about ourselves will help others find positive ways to communicate with each other effectively.

  3. Hi Sheena,
I think it is pretty cool that you are learning expressions and greetings in other languages. I plan to learn some new greetings as well!
